Dafne's Skin, Triennale Milano

We are very pleased to support the Viennese architecture firm MAEID in the realization of their unique project "Dafne's Skin - Architecture as a living organism". The installation is part of the 24th International Exhibition INEQUALITIES of the Triennale Milano (May 13 - November 9, 2025).

"Dafne's Skin" is inspired by the myth of the nymph Daphne, who transforms into a tree. The artwork shows an enlarged fragment of her "skin", which changes over the course of the exhibition through microbial patina - a fascinating process that is controlled by robots. What is considered decay becomes a symbol of change and beauty.

The installation consists of a tubular steel structure covered with our X-TEND® stainless steel cable mesh, which serves as a support for wooden shingles. Microalgae and bacteria grow on the wooden surface and are monitored by robots that control light and humidity.

"Dafne's Skin" is a living example of how architecture and biological processes merge. It shows that architecture is not static - it can be a constantly changing, living system.
