Project details

Lingerie factory

The former laundry factory in Berlin-Wedding, built between 1910 and 1912 to a design by Martin Punitzer, is an early example of neoclassical industrial architecture in reinforced concrete - and one of the first buildings of its kind in Berlin. The listed ensemble, which originally enclosed almost an entire perimeter block development, is now being converted by Bollinger + Fehlig Architekten into modern, sustainable office space to LEED Gold standard. Historic elements such as the striking inner courtyard and the architectural substance are being preserved and carefully transferred to the new use.

As part of the upgrade, a filigree staircase flag made of X-TEND Stainless Steel Cable Mesh was installed. This solution makes it possible to preserve the historic railings and at the same time meet today's requirements for fall protection. With its transparent, open structure, the X-TEND Mesh blends unobtrusively into the architecture, offers ETA safety and impresses with its low-maintenance durability - a successful example of how modern safety design preserves the value of historic buildings.
