Towering high above the idyllic Schönbuch Nature Park in Baden-Württemberg, the Schönbuchturm is an impressive structure that harmoniously combines architecture and nature. Since its opening in 2018, the excursion destination at 580 m above sea level has been attracting visitors from near and far. Two spiral staircases, each with 174 steps, lead to a height of 35 meters, where three viewing platforms at 10, 20 and 30 meters open up breathtaking panoramas. From here, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view over the forests and orchards of the Böblingen district all the way to the Albtrauf, which stretches from Rosenstein in the Ostalbkreis district to Lemberg in the Tuttlingen district.
The high-quality X-TEND® and I-SYS® systems were used to protect visitors on the stairs and platforms of the Schönbuchturm. The X-TEND® stainless steel cable meshmade of 2 mm thick cables with a mesh width of 60 mm, was precisely integrated into the railings. The flexible and delicate structure of the mesh ensures maximum safety without compromising the unobstructed view of the surroundings. The construction is complemented by the robust I-SYS® stainless steel cable system with a diameter of 16 mm, which stabilizes the edge of the tower and remains almost invisible in terms of design.
The combination of I-SYS and X-TEND combines functionality and aesthetics. It blends seamlessly into the striking design of the Schönbuchturm and emphasizes its architectural elegance, while at the same time offering visitors a safe experience at lofty heights. The Schönbuchturm is not only a landmark of the region, but also a prime example of how innovative safety technology and modern design can merge.
