Project details

Deichtorhallen visitor platform

In 2012, the British sculptor Antony Gormley created the art installation "Horizon Field" in Hamburg's Deichtorhallen, which was part of the documenta. A walk-on steel construction suspended around 7 meters above the ground gave visitors a unique view downwards. Safety was ensured by the flexible X-TEND® stainless steel cable mesh.

The 60-ton platform swung above the visitors and was attached to the 19-metre-high ceiling of the Deichtorhallen. Visitors were only allowed to walk on the platform barefoot. To ensure that visitors were safe despite the visual and acoustic challenges of the installation, Gormley used the lightweight and flexible X-TEND® stainless steel cable mesh as horizontal fall protection.

With an area of 1,250 square meters, the installation was suspended at a dizzying height and secured by the X-TEND® cable mesh construction.
