The Dilworth pedestrian bridge in Auckland, New Zealand, combines safety and design in an impressive way. Since 2012, a 43-metre-long bridge section has spanned a busy highway, which is equipped with 380 m² of X-TEND® CXE stainless steel cable mesh is fitted. The X-TEND® mesh reliably prevents objects from intentionally or unintentionally getting onto the cars driving underneath. With a fine mesh size, the view of Auckland's surroundings remains unobstructed - a crucial factor in a country known for its scenic beauty.
The design of the bridge, south of the Newmarket Viaduct, reflects the waves of the nearby ocean and the neighborhood of Mount Hobson and Mount Eden. According to the responsible project manager Steve Mutton, it is one of the safest pedestrian bridges in New Zealand, thanks to the robust and transparent fall protection provided by the X-TEND® stainless steel cable mesh.
The Dilworth Pedestrian Bridge shows how functionality, aesthetics and safety can be harmoniously combined. It is not only a practical structure, but also a landmark that brings the scenic beauty of Auckland to life for pedestrians and motorists alike.
