Dragon's lair
The Caverne du Dragon in Oulches-la-Vallée-Foulon, France, is a historic and impressive monument of the First World War. Originally used as a quarry in the 16th century, the cave was converted into an underground fort by German troops during the war. The name "Dragon's Cave" was given because of the seven entrances, which looked like "fire-breathing dragons" when they were equipped with weapons.
Today, the cave is a museum that brings to life the history of the soldiers who lived here under extreme conditions. Visitors can tour the various areas of the cave, which once served as barracks, a hospital and a communications facility.
The X-TEND® CXS Stainless Steel Cable Mesh was used for the railings in the access areas and to secure dangerous areas. This durable, weather-resistant and virtually maintenance-free cable mesh blends in perfectly with the historical ambience of the cave, both functionally and visually. The transparent-looking cable mesh ensures safety for visitors without obstructing the view of the fascinating underground spaces and the authentic atmosphere of the historic site.
