Project details

Archbishop's Vocational College

The Cologne architects from 3pass have created a modern training center for around 1,100 students in the form of the archiepiscopal vocational college. The building impresses with its clear, cubic shape on the outside and the curved, elegant lines on the inside. The vocational college provides young people with knowledge and skills for social and health-related professions on four floors. The light-flooded atrium in particular, which extends over four floors, forms the heart of the building. From the galleries, visitors and students can experience the open room concept at lofty heights - always accompanied by a high degree of safety thanks to the railing infills made of X-TEND® CXE stainless steel mesh.

The X-TEND® CXE mesh was chosen as it meets the highest safety standards and blends seamlessly into the curved architecture of the building. X-TEND® stainless steel cable mesh offers transparency, stability and flexibility, while at the same time allowing a clear view of the impressive atrium.

The vocational college combines the tradition and expertise of four former schools of the Archdiocese of Cologne: the Johann-Michael-Sailer-Institut, the Sachsenring-Schule, the Klosterstraße and the Schule Am Krieler Dom. Since construction was completed in 2016, the new building has symbolized this successful merger and the shared vision of a modern and open educational institution.
