Luxembourg may be one of the smallest countries in the EU, but it is a pioneer when it comes to education and infrastructure. An impressive example of this is the new Dellheicht elementary school (École primaire Dellheicht) in Esch-sur-Alzette. The modern educational building has won numerous prestigious architectural awards and was praised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in particular for the exemplary design of the sports hall.

In the sports hall, the X-TEND® CXA stainless steel cable mesh from Carl Stahl Architektur ensures safety and aesthetics. It serves as a resilient and stable ball catch mesh that also creates a visual highlight with its integrated sequins.
The mesh can also be found in the facade design. It covers large parts of the building like a second skin and was developed into a floral work of art in collaboration with South African artist Sally Arnold. The sequins, which are based on botanical shapes, give the mesh an extraordinary, vibrant aesthetic.
The mesh was stretched over an area of 360 m² around the sports facility. It ensures that balls stay in the play area and do not leave the school grounds - safety and functionality that optimally support the children's urge to move.
The city of Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg's second largest city, has held the title of European Capital of Culture since 2022. In addition to the modern architecture of the École primaire Dellheicht, the city offers a variety of cultural highlights such as the Rockhal, the Musée National de la Résistance, the Kulturfabrik and the Blast Furnace Belval.
