Project details

Wilhelma Crocodile Hall

Wilhelma in Stuttgart is a unique combination of zoo and botanical gardens, embedded in a historic palace complex. Around 11,000 animals from over 1,200 species live on around 28 hectares. As the second most species-rich zoo in Germany and the only zoological-botanical garden in the country, Wilhelma offers numerous attractions, including the great ape house, the Amazon house, the aquarium and the crocodile hall. The latter serves as a common habitat for Australian reptiles, amphibians, birds and plants.

In 2005/2006, the crocodile hall was rebuilt and modeled on a northern Australian landscape. In March 2006, four crocodiles, including two white ones, moved into the new quarters. The railings were equipped with a double cable mesh construction to ensure a safe distance between the dangerous animals and the visitors. As Australian crocodiles can jump up to 3 meters high, the double crocodile fence allows a safe view of the animals. The X-TEND® stainless steel cable mesh is dyed black and blends almost invisibly into the surroundings.

The X-TEND® mesh combines safety and design elements. It is versatile and can be used both indoors and outdoors. Thanks to its flexibility, almost all individual customer requirements can be realized, including three-dimensional shapes. The durable and adaptable X-TEND® stainless steel cable meshes can withstand heavy loads and offer a high level of resistance.
