Project details
Lady Herkomer footbridge
The town of Landsberg am Lech is divided by the river of the same name, which made it difficult to move between the two banks for a long time. Long car journeys were often necessary to reach the next bridge. A practical solution was created with the Lady Herkomer footbridge: The bridge provides pedestrians and cyclists with a direct connection between the historic old town and the modern quarter on the Papierbach. As a central element of the Landsberg 2035 city vision, it promotes the mobility transition and shortens distances - an important step towards a more sustainable and liveable city.
For the fall protection of the walkway, the planners opted for the X-TEND® stainless steel cable mesh. This fulfills two important requirements: It ensures maximum safety and at the same time offers an open, inviting design. A total of 253 m² of X-TEND® stainless steel cable mesh was installed on the Lady Herkomer footbridge. The cable meshes consist of 1.5 mm thick stainless steel cables, which are supplemented by the I-SYS® suspension cable system with a thickness of 6 mm. The 35 mm mesh width ensures that even small children are optimally protected, while the filigree structure of the net provides a clear view of the Lech river. This combination of safety and transparency underlines the future-oriented character of the structure and blends harmoniously into the surroundings. The illuminated handrails from LUX GLENDER ensure that the walkway is evenly lit.
The black coating on all elements - from the cable mesh to the suspension cables and clamps - gives the footbridge a special visual touch. This design combines functionality with modern, elegant aesthetics, making the Lady Herkomer footbridge an impressive example of innovative bridge construction.
