Marienbrücke Wernstein am Inn

The connection between Wernstein in Austria and Neuburg am Inn in Germany is characterized by an architectural masterpiece - the Mariensteg, the only suspension bridge over the Inn. This pedestrian and cycle bridge, which was inaugurated in 2006, not only connects two countries, but also offers unforgettable views of the river and the surrounding landscape. Thanks to the X-TEND CXS Stainless Steel Cable Mesh, pedestrians enjoy maximum safety with unrestricted transparency. The Linz architect Erhard Kargel set new standards in bridge construction with his minimalist design concept. The Mariensteg was nominated for the German Bridge Award back in 2008 and later received the Renault Traffic Future Award. The jury particularly praised the filigree yet robust construction, which is underlined by the use of X-TEND CXS.

A total of 180 m² of X-TEND® CXS mesh with a mesh size of 50 mm was professionally tensioned. This construction not only guarantees reliable fall protection, but also allows pedestrians and cyclists an unrestricted view of the beauty of the Inn. The Mariensteg closes a 16-kilometer gap that has existed since the ferry service was discontinued 45 years ago. Between the bridges in Schärding and Passau, the Mariensteg creates a new connection that is much more than a practical structure - it symbolizes the close connection between two nations from the same language family.

Its minimalist appearance perfectly matches the clear and functional aesthetics of the bridge and ensures that the architecture remains in harmony with nature.
