Project details

Port of Kiel

The PORT OF KIEL is one of the most versatile ports on the Baltic Sea quay. Its location, the permanent depth for seagoing vessels and the direct connection to the rail and road network make the port equally attractive for freight and passenger traffic. Ships docked at the port require electricity for lighting or food refrigeration, which is supplied by generators powered by marine diesel. Now a unique highlight has been created on the world's busiest artificial waterway. The new shore power system with our X-LED is a breathtaking eye-catcher. The system covers 44 percent of the energy requirements of the ships moored at the port of Kiel in an emission-free and climate-neutral way. In two years' time, this figure is expected to rise to 60 to 70 percent.

The X-LED stainless steel cable mesh with more than 12,000 built-in LEDs was realized in cooperation with Carl Stahl ARC, Trilux Cologne and TEAMLICHT Hamburg. On a display measuring around 720 square meters, a wide variety of motifs are conjured up on the LED wall when all the LEDs are in full operation, consuming just under 25 kilowatt hours of green electricity. The new shore power system for climate protection is thus also visually visible and creates a highlight with different lighting situations that change continuously.
