Open-Air Enclosure for Chimpanzees and Gorillas

The Krefeld Zoo is one of the best-known zoological institutions in the Lower Rhine region and is a popular destination for families, nature lovers, and animal enthusiasts. The spacious, park-like grounds are home to around 1,000 animals representing approximately 140 different species. The zoo combines modern animal care with fascinating insights into the habitats of native and exotic animal species.

A secure yet unobtrusive enclosure solution was implemented for the chimpanzees’ and gorillas’ outdoor enclosures. Black X-TEND® Stainless Steel were used. Thanks to their delicate structure background the nets blend into the background allowing visitors an almost unobstructed view of the animals and their natural-looking habitats. To provide additional security for the facility, the PERIMESH® Stainless Steel was installed outside the enclosures, ensuring a robust and durable barrier around the visitor areas.

The result was a solution that combines safety and functionality with an open, understated design and enhances the visitor experience in a lasting way.
