Kronplatz cable car, Olang, Italy

Kronplatz, at 2,275 meters one of the most famous excursion destinations in South Tyrol, inspires with innovative structures. The Olang 1+2 monocable gondola lift, opened in winter 2020, sets new standards.

Hamburg architects Schlotthauer Matthiessen designed an undulating roof made of transparent ETFE film skin, realized by Temme // Obermeier. The dome-shaped structure ensures optimal light flooding and adapts to the movements of the cable car.

With 3,000 stainless steel cables of 8 mm cable diameter each, the roof is stabilized against high snow loads without impairing transparency.

The rust and acid-resistant cables offer maximum reliability and efficiency thanks to European Technical AssessmentETA) and monitored production processes.

This project combines technology, design and functionality and is an example of modern architecture in the heart of the Dolomites.
