The Stubnerkogel in the Austrian province of Salzburg is one of the most popular destinations for hikers and skiers. The summit at an altitude of 2,200 meters is easily accessible by cable car and offers visitors an impressive nature experience. One highlight is the Glocknerblick viewing platform, which offers a breathtaking view of the Grossglockner, Austria's highest mountain. The platform can be reached via a short footpath from the cable car mountain station - or, for the more adventurous, via a spectacular suspension bridge.
This 140-metre-long bridge, which rises up to 28 meters above the abyss, offers an unobstructed view of the surrounding mountains and the dramatic landscape of the Stubnerkogel. Thanks to its transparent design, it combines thrills with an unforgettable panorama and has become a magnet for visitors.
The extraordinary height and exposed location of the suspension bridge on the mountainside required special safety measures. The stable basic construction with robust suspension cables is supplemented by wind cables that are anchored to the ground and limit the vibrations of the bridge - even at wind speeds of up to 200 km/h.
Another key element is the fall protection. This must not only provide reliable protection, but must not impair the spectacular view. For the railing infill of the bridge, the choice fell on the X-TEND® stainless steel cable mesh. With a cable diameter of just 1.5 mm and a mesh width of 40 mm, the mesh offers a filigree, transparent solution that meets the highest safety standards. It provides effective protection against falls without restricting the view of the impressive mountain landscape.
A total of 250 meters of X-TEND® mesh was installed. Thanks to its weather resistance, the mesh defies the extreme conditions on the summit, including high humidity and intense sunlight, and guarantees a long service life.
The use of the X-TEND® stainless steel cable mesh combines safety with an open, lightweight design and emphasizes the spectacular architecture of the suspension bridge - another highlight on the Stubnerkogel that delights visitors from all over the world.
