Wellington Square Playground

With the modernization of Wellington Square Park, Perth, Western Australia's largest city, has created an intergenerational meeting place. At a cost of 17.5 million US dollars, a 3,000 m² playground, event rooms and a multi-purpose sports field were created. After 12 months of construction, the new facility has become a popular destination for young and old alike. The playground is named Koolangka Koolangka Waabiny, which means "children's playground" in the Whadjuk Nyoongar language. This motto honors the importance of the park to the Aboriginal community. The design and color scheme are inspired by the landscapes and flowers of Western Australia, connecting past and present.

A 1,200 m² X-TEND® CXA stainless steel cable mesh provides 60 % shading for the playground. Coloured Add-ons integrated into the mesh not only create pleasant shade, but also a lively play of colours. The robust material can be used all year round and blends seamlessly into the modern design. The X-TEND® stainless steel cable mesh impresses with its versatility. It is not only suitable for shading systems, but also for railing infills, fall protection or as a design element. Its three-dimensional formability allows almost unlimited design possibilities and makes it an ideal component of innovative projects.
