Project details

Dresden Zoo

Dresden Zoo is a popular excursion destination for families and animal lovers and is characterized by its species-appropriate husbandry and modern architecture. Covering around 14 hectares, the zoo is home to over 1,500 animals from different continents and offers a variety of adventure areas where visitors can observe the animals up close. Particularly noteworthy is the sustainable and natural design of the enclosures, which offers the animals an optimal living environment and at the same time provides visitors with fascinating insights into the animal world.

The new orangutan house at Dresden Zoo was officially opened in 2024. The impressive facility not only offers the orangutans a spacious area to climb and play, but also a near-natural environment that is reminiscent of the animals' natural habitats. With an X-TEND® stainless steel cable mesh area of over 1,000 square meters and a height of over 10 meters, the enclosure is particularly varied. Numerous climbing nets, ropes, platforms and nest swings allow the orangutans to move freely and exercise their natural climbing skills.

The new orangutan house was planned with special attention to the needs of the animals and the safety of visitors. The transparent and flexible structure of the X-TEND® stainless steel cable mesh provides an almost invisible partition that does not disturb the animals' natural habitat and at the same time allows visitors to observe the animals at close range. With this new installation, Dresden Zoo is setting a further example of modern and animal-friendly architecture in zoological facilities.
